After Basic Training at Ft. Lewis Washington and AIT at the Campus on Colgate Creek aka Ft. Holabird, I was assigned to D Detachment 1st MI BN (ARS) from November 1968 to November 1969 in the beautiful Beach area of Nha Trang, I was reassigned to US Army Alaska and then returned to Vietnam to a much less desireable location as an Advisor with Macv Team 3 in Hua and later as the G2 Air advisor to Macv Team 155 in Quang Tri. My father became terminally ill in Nov 71 and I came home on an emergency leave. After he passed away, I requested a compassionate assignment to be closer to my mother here in Montana, In the Army's infinate wisdom, I was granted the reassignment, however I was headed to Ft. Bragg, NC and the 15th MI BN (ARS). On 30 April 1972 the 15th was deactivated and the 1st MI BN (ARS) which returned from Vietnam took their place at Ft. Bragg. I was assigned to Det A while at Bragg and in August 1975 I was reassiged to Germany thus ending my career with the 1st MIBARS. A tour in Germany with the 73d MI CO (AS) (Mowhawk) unit then I was reassigned to Ft. Knox Ky to assume the duties as S2 Ncoic of the 194th Armored Brigade far removed from II work. As luck would have it I was a DA selectee for a tour on recruiting duty, this I served in Billings, Montana. After that horrible experience I returned to Ft. Bragg as the Det SGT of Det 3 17th MI Co This unit occupied the same buildings as the old 15th and 1st MI when it was there, I was promoted to E8 and received orders to return to Germany as the G2 Ops NCO of the 3d Infantry Division. after a short while I was made the 1SG of Bravo company 103d MI BN. My last duty assignment was as the I Corps G2 Ops NCO at Ft. Lewis Washington, I retired as a 1SG with 20 years 5 months and a few days but whose counting.
